Laramie Police Department’s Shop with a Cop 2020

This year, the Laramie Police Department will hold its 1st Annual Shop with a Cop (SWAC) event on December 18th, 2020. In participation with officers, school counselors, social workers, and faculty in Albany County School Districts approximately 15 - 30 elementary students will be selected and given a $100 Wal-Mart shopping spree.

The goal of the Shop with a Cop program is to foster positive relationships between local youth and officers. Each student will have $100.00 to spend on whatever they so choose; food, necessities, and gifts for other family members.

To make the Laramie Police Department’s Shop with a Cop program unique, our additional goal will be to send each kiddo back home with a $50 Holiday Supper for their family to enjoy together. The idea is to both have the child shop with a law enforcement officer and build trust with our young people, while also assisting a whole family in need with a hot dinner..

Local law enforcement officers ("Cops") in the Laramie area have partnered with the Albany County schools to identify one to three students in each elementary school.  A uniformed Cop will pick up each student at their school in a marked police vehicle, and taken to Walmart in Laramie for their spree with an officer, deputy or trooper.

What we Need: We need your help to make Christmas special for these local elementary students. Your support gets us closer to adding one more kid to the Laramie Shop with a Cop program. And, any remaining funds from this program will be kept in a nonprofit account through the Laramie Police Department Foundation for the local school district to buy school breakfast and lunches for students who cannot afford to do so on their own.
